"No," She said her voice husky. She hadn't been sure that the warmth that had seeped from his hand into her body had been magic or just hormones.
"Concede to me,"
Alex easily took her weight as she clung to him, arm tightening around her waist as the other fisted in her hair at the nape of her neck. At first he was borne away by the fierceness of her kiss, but soon he began to respond in kind. How could he have missed this? He must have been blind. He never wanted to let her go but eventually they needed air. He smiled back at her, a rare gentle and unguarded smile.
"We could call a truce?" She said as she bit her lip.
"No, I concede, milady." He chuckled lightly, bowing his head as best he could. He suddenly realized he was still holding her up against him, and reluctantly lowered her down to the ground.

"We could call a truce?" She said as she bit her lip.
"No, I concede, milady." He chuckled lightly, bowing his head as best he could. He suddenly realized he was still holding her up against him, and reluctantly lowered her down to the ground.
Elation rushed through Elle and she grinned widely. Her eyes gleamed like a cat's who just ate the cream. She almost crowed but thought that was taking it just a bit far.
"A battle well fought my lord," She said breathlessly, dipping into a wobbly curtsy when her feet touched the ground. She took a deep breath her lips still tingling from the kisses. Alex Kameren had definitely improved with age. This was not the boy she had remembered. Gone were his tentative kisses where she lead. He'd actually kissed her first, had led the kisses and had given more than she had. Elle was awe struck by him.
"well now that we've evened the dueling score. I think we should go before I lose my head even further," Elle said with a laugh and headed to the door.
"That style looks good on you," She grinned as she turned back towards him, pointing at his shirt that had fell open to reveal his chest. Merlin's balls he had a good chest.
Alex laughed and offered a steadying hand as she wobbled slightly. She certainly looked as though she'd been thoroughly kissed. The evening was turning out even better than he'd hoped. He offered his arm for her to take.
"The night's not over yet." He said with a wink, leading Elle towards the door. They had time for a quick session at the range. Always assuming there were no more... distractions. As exhilarating as they might have been.

What? Alex looked down, surprised to see his shirt open nearly to his navel. He'd forgotten in the fury of kisses. He tsked, summoning the buttons with a wiggle of his fingers and fixing her with a beady eye as he repaired his shirt. She'd done it on purpose, and not because she wanted to win the duel. She just wanted his shirt.
"There's more to come." They headed farther into the facility, towards the spell range.

"There's more to come."
"Haven't had enough yet?" Elle teased as she saw they were following signs to the Spell range. She'd get to hit targets after all.
Elle was enjoying herself as she walked down the hallway her arm looped into his. It was going better than she had hoped. Actually, she'd find it more believable if she were dreaming and she'd wake up any moment now on her cot with Alex banging at the door. If you had told her that Alex Kameren would engage in nearly public kissing she'd have called the mungo's insanity ward to let them a new patient was coming to see them. It felt like a dream and she didn't want it to end. A part of her knew it wouldn't last. That it couldn't last. He'd come to his senses eventually and realize he'd just want to be her friend. That she was like a little sister now that there was 17 years between them.
It didn't take long for the pair to make it to the Spell Range. It was a large open area sectioned off into long rectangles. Customers could choose to do target practice or dueling mode. The goal in target practice was to blast as many targets in a timed period. Dueling mode had different kinds of targets that required different spells in order to be considered "knocked down".
"Target mode as a warm up or do you want to go straight to the madness?" Elle asked as they came to an empty lane.
"Not yet." His eyes were dark as he looked down at her, a slight smile on his lips. He felt a strong connection to Elle, they meshed well together. He wanted this to never end, and he wouldn't let anything stand in his way.
"Target mode as a warm up or do you want to go straight to the madness?"
"Dueling mode." He selected the option with his wand and winked at her. "I want to see the famous Elle Callahan duel."

"Dueling mode." He selected the option with his wand and winked at her. "I want to see the famous Elle Callahan duel."
Alex Kameren winked at her. It was a real wink. She was certain there was nothing in his eye. Nope, Alex Kameren had truly winked at her.
"Have it your way, I'm not called Elle the Spell for nothing," She said taking a deep breath. "I guess I'll go first then?" She said stepping up to the line that was drawn on the ground. Elle faced the range determine to have a good score. A chime let her know that the game was starting.
"Watch and learn Kameren," She called out as the game started and the first target popped up, it was a little girl. Elle created a shield around the girl before moving on to the next target. A snake popped up and Elle blasted it to piece. She then stupefied what was suppose to be a dark wizard. A bunch of bottle came flying at her and she blasted them away with a water spell. She lost points for. It hadn't been the spell the game had been looking for. Round one had finished and Elle stepped aside for Alex.
"What do you have hidden up your sleeve," She asked looking him up and down as she walked towards him. She lightly danced her fingers up his wand arm as he walked past her to the starting line.

Alex captured her fingers, squeezing them lightly. He hadn't rolled his sleeves down after their duel, and electricity sparked through him at her touch. Everything about her intrigued him. He wanted to know her better, to learn what really made her tick. He smirked, sketching a short, almost mocking bow. He wanted to beat her.
"You'll see."
Pushing back his sleeves, Alex pulled out his wand with a flourish, non-wand hand at the ready as well. Soon the chime sounded, and he was off. Both his wand and fingers glowed, firing rapid spells, sometimes even nearly simultaneously. A demon popped up and he hit it with a Sectumsempra, firing off a rictusempra at a gnome that popped up. Then he used a blasting curse on a wall, and a shield on the little girl who popped up. He lost points for not using a fast enough reducto on a dragon, but soldiered on and finished the round. He lowered his hands and looked back at Elle. "Up for round 2?"

Elle raised an eyebrow as he caught her fingers, giving them a light squeeze. She was captivated by him. He was so different yet the same. It was odd how much he had changed and yet how he remained the same . He was still as competitive as ever. She was also glad to see that his speech was a lot clearer. When she had last seen him he was still trying to cope with his handicap. Now she hardly noticed the effects of the comma. He was almost as quick with his words as he had been when they’d been in school.
Elle laughed when he bowed to her. She gave him a little salute instead of a curtsy.
“Not fair!” Elle called as he cheated, using his wand and wandless magic. There was no way she could beat his score now. He could hit twice as many targets as she could in the allotted time. “Cheating cheater who cheats,” She called out trying to distract him as he continued his little show. It was actually quite impressive. The sight of the demon gave Elle a little scare. She actually let out a squeak before she realized that the demon wasn’t real. Bloody hell. Why would they have a demon in the game? 17 years apparently wasn’t too soon for some to make lite of demons.
"Up for round 2?" Elle didn’t want to play anymore. It was more than just her being hopelessly behind. Normaly, Elle didn’t let an insurmountable mountain get in the way. She liked daunting tasks and wasn’t one to give up on anything. The fun had gone out of the game at the sight of the demon. Memories haunted her. She couldn’t get the image of a demon tearing apart a little girl out of her.
“No. I concede, that combo of wand use and wandless is quite extraordinary. Could you teach me wandless?”

Alex smirked over his shoulder at her, he was showing off just a little bit. He wanted to impress her, but his smile quickly faded as the demon came up. To him it was almost cathartic, being able to come here and blast the demons to smithereens like he hadn't been able to during the war. But it was far fresher for Elle. Still he finished the round and tried to put a brave face on it, asking if she'd like to try another round. But even Alex could tell the fun had gone out of the game for her, he instead crossed to her as she declined a second round, bending and gathering her into a hug.
"I'm sorry, I forgot." He kissed her briefly on the forehead.

"I'm sorry, I forgot." He kissed her briefly on the forehead.
Merlin's pants he was sweet. Elle closed her eyes as he enveloped her in a comforting hug. "Nothing to apologize for. I'm still getting use to the fact that for most people demons have been long gone," She said softly determined to put it behind her. Elle stood on her tip toes and kissed Alex, partly to block out the image of the demon and also to bring back the playfulness of their earlier time.
Elle hadn't noticed the people in the range next to them until a high pitched voice exclaimed in horror. "Is that girl kissing her father?"
Startled, Elle broke off the kiss. She glared at the busy body who had made the comment. Elle was furious. That woman had no right to say anything. Before Elle could say something the woman, who had to be a few years older than Elle continued talking.
"Honey, it'll never last. Trust me. The money isn't worth it," The lady offered the advice.
"I'm sorry I hadn't realized I asked for your opinion," Elle said disdainfully. "Since we're trading unwanted advice, you really should learn tact. You're not the bloody prime minister, no one wants your bloody opinions," Elle said grabbing Alex's hand and practically dragging him out of the range.
Elle barely contained her temper as they left. She wanted to go back in there and yell more at the woman but she didn't want to ruin her date. However she couldn't help but think about what the woman had said. Was their age difference too big? They had a lot stacked against them. First was the height difference. That had always been a problem. Even when she'd only been a year older than him people had commented on the comical difference in their height. Now, it was even more apparent. Then there was the fact that she was now 18 years younger than him. He had all this life experience now and she was still a twenty something trying to find her way in the world. She barely had ten galleons to her name and he lived in a mansion. She was trying to start her career and he'd already made advancements. Would he want a family? Elle had wanted kids before her life had stalled but now she wasn't so sure. Could she bring a child in a world where she might just disappear again leaving that child behind? What if he thought he was too old for children? It was all too much and they weren't even officially dating.
"I'm starving, want to grab a bite to eat?"Elle asked.

This time it was Elle who reached for him, he lifted her slightly as he responded, teasing her lower lip gently with his teeth. A shrill voice broke apart their reverie, Elle jerking back from him to glare at the intruder, Alex steadied her as she returned her feet to the ground rather suddenly.
"Honey, it'll never last. Trust me. The money isn't worth it," The lady offered the advice.
Alex's pleasant haze evaporated in anger as the woman's nasty tone tore apart their evening. He noticed another man farther down the row, staring, but thought nothing of it since the woman was creating quite the fuss. He narrowed his eyes, jaw tightening as he forced back a hex. He reached for Elle's hand, squeezing it both for her reassurance and his own.
"No one asked you," he said icily, "And she is the best thing to happen to me in a long time." He spun on his heel and followed Elle as she rushed out, throwing one more disdainful look over his shoulder at the sputtering and complaining woman before they passed through the door.
He was furious, eyes sparking. How dare that woman assume anything about them? She'd compared Elle to a gold-digger at best, and a prostitute at worst. He'd meant it. Perhaps he was too old, too scarred. Maybe she didn't want anything from him, finding the kisses to be some link to the past she'd left behind so abruptly, or only wanted something physical, and he was reading too much into her responses. He was certainly reminded of the distances when he saw her scared to travel by magic, or saw their reflection in an inconvenient window. They passed one looking into a dark room and he was struck by the difference, not only in size. His face, lined with scars and wrinkles, hers fresh and young. He grimaced at the face in the window as they passed. What he did know was that he felt a connection with her he'd never had before, that she challenged him both mentally and physically, that she made him laugh and that she was stubborn as anything, but also kind.
"I'm starving, want to grab a bite to eat?"Elle asked.
Alex loosened the hold on her hand, thumb stroking it as if to apologize for gripping too tight, smiling. He wanted to see where they went. "Yes, let's. Where would you like to eat, milady?" He swept a partial bow, being as silly with it as he could to erase away the unpleasantness.

Well, Elle tried to drag him out but she just ended up pulling his arm taunt as he stood his ground giving the woman his own two cents.
"No one asked you," he said icily, "And she is the best thing to happen to me in a long time."
Elle’s brows furrowed at Alex’s words. Best thing that happened? Did he really mean that? She felt almost giddy at the thought. So he was glad that she was back mucking up his life again? Now, did that mean that he wanted to date her? Should they date? Elle wasn’t a naïve idiot. She knew it would be hard. The prat at the range would just be one of many people who would comment on them. But why should she let people she didn’t even know rule her life? Random strangers, hell even people she knew could lay whatever judgements they wanted at her feet. She would date whoever she wanted. Age was just a damn number. Elle didn’t see an old man. Sure, she realized that Alex was older, more mature but that wasn’t a downside. It was a plus. The Alex she remembered had been hesitant, unsure of himself and a bit immature. She’d had to carefully prod him along, scared that she’d spook him away from trying a relationship with her. This Alex didn’t seem spooked at all.
“I'm starving, want to grab a bite to eat?"Elle asked.

Elle grinned at his playfulness. She adopted her own high born lady persona and offered him her hand to kiss.
“Oh, somewhere over yonder M’lord. I am positively famished and shall perspire if I am not offered nourishment soon. Somewhere I can stare at your lovely face and here the words from your lips,” She said breaking out into laughter.
Elle dropped the act, looping her arm through his. “Anywhere close really. Something quick and greasy. Where we can get to know each other. I am intrigued by you Mister Kameren and I want to get to know this version of you better,”

Alex found himself smiling again, laughing with her he bent to brush his mouth lightly over her fingertips. He hadn't felt this carefree in a long time, and the unpleasantness of the range started to fade as she tucked her hand in his elbow.
"Anywhere close really. Something quick and greasy. Where we can get to know each other. I am intrigued by you Mister Kameren and I want to get to know this version of you better,”
"There's that fish'n chips shop nearby," Alex offered. "Not sure they've changed a thing in 20 years." They started walking towards the exit of the Dragons. He'd had such a great time tonight, despite the hiccups. Looking down at her as they walked, he was struck by her beauty, inside and out. Suddenly he stopped, free hand coming up to cup her chin as he leaned down for another kiss, his lips smiling against hers before they pulled apart. "I meant it, you know."

"There's that fish'n chips shop nearby," Alex offered. "Not sure they've changed a thing in 20 years."
"Yes! that little hole in the wall that uses a ton of vinegar? I can never remember the name but I love that place," Elle said excited about the prospect of eating her weight in fried fish. Elle bounced along beside him practically skipping. One could always tell Elle's mood by the way she walked. Some people expressed their feelings through the eyes, or their face but Elle's feelings was in her movements.
Elle raised an eyebrow when they suddenly halted. Elle looked up at Alex as he cupped her chin. She grinned when he kissed her. She could get use to this new more self assured Alex.
"I meant it, you know."
Elle frowned as she tried to figure out what he was talking about.
"You're the best thing to happen to me." He smiled, taking her hand. "Let's eat. And maybe you can remind me of some things I've forgotten." They exited the Dragons, Alex leading the way towards the little shop down the block. It was dark out, night having come on fast while they were playing. It was dinnertime, and the pavement was sparsely populated, as most people were indoors eating.
"Here it is," a small storefront, with a blinking open sign, beckoned them in, warm lights blaring onto the sidewalk. Alex had to duck quite a bit when they entered, the building was over a hundred and fifty years old, and the engineers evidently hadn't planned for giants. Indoors he could stand upright, but kept at a crouch out of some sort of instinct. They ordered and were able to squeeze into a tiny two person booth in a corner, Alex's long legs taking up far too much space.
