"So you like quidditch?"
Jamie looked up at the tall man walking beside him, broom in hand. It wasnt as new and advanced as his Eclipse, but it was still pretty good. It suddenly occured to him the true origins of his broom. He'd assumed mum had saved all year for it... but it had to be him. Alex. How had he known? Or had he simlly given his mum the money for a gift? Beyond what he had been paying to keep the estate alive... The Kamerens were and old, old, family. The MacDougals were almost as old but unlike the Kamerens they had never been truly wealthy, and they had declined as the family faded away.
"Yeah!" he said enthusiastically, shifting his broom's position as they headed for the Hogsmeade pitch. He'd wanted to go somewhere else, away from the school. "I wanna be team captain, I think maybe next year, Katie Sorenson's graduating this year!" he couldnt help beaming, on his favorite subject now. Though worn and tired looking, the tall man listened intently as Jamie broke down the Slytherin team and its dynamics. He only broke off when they arrived on the field, looking shyly up at the man beside him. They had come this far, but with no real plan. What would happen next? He'd been talking Alex's ear off for a good ten minutes at least.
At last thw stalemate was broken as Alex dropped his broom, swinging one leg over it in one smooth motion. "R-r-race you!" and he was off, soaring high. Jamie scrambled to join him, racing for the sky, closing the gap between them.
"No fair!" the wind ripped the words from his mouth.
