It had been a trying month. Despite his fervent prayers for the contrary, evil was once again threatening the peace of the Wizarding World. All Emory had wanted to do was settle back into life, learn how to relax after the last War, have a chance to explore his druidic roots, long forgotten in the heat of vengeance. He’d wanted to teach, to watch the next generations grow and how lucky had he gotten to get the job at Hogwarts and at the right time to see his friend’s children walk through the halls that had given them so many good memories?!
But what should have been a good happy time had been marred by the threat of a danger they still knew so little about. Shadowloved. A cult. And yet one that had almost been forgotten by the ages. Just a few members here and there of an ancient evil… and suddenly back with a vengeance. It was worrying how many attacks had happened, the latest on Curse’s eldest.
The thought made him frown. He’d missed the last few years of Curse’s life, taken by the Flux as he’d been. But even without really knowing the boy, well man now he supposed, Emory felt a certain responsibility to look out for the Kameren children. He’d been keeping an especially close eye on Violet and Evie while at Hogwarts but so far the Castle seemed safe from whatever was plaguing their older brother.
If you didn’t count the Earthquake that was. But even that had affected the town more than the school. The Druid sighed as he thought about the damages caused. His friend Nuri’s shop had suffered, as well as his… well he still didn’t know quite what to call Eden, but her workshop, that lovely glasshouse, had been shattered. On top of her visions and everything else going on in her life, well they both needed a day away. And Emory had just the place.
He glanced down the lane as he waited outside Honeydukes, their designated meeting point, hoping to see her familiar blonde waves. He’d never meant for this to happen, was sure some people would raise eyebrows, but with everything else going on, he hadn’t wanted to fight what had been an easy connection and something positive for both of them. No, for now, he was quite content to spend his days with Eden Fletcher and make her laugh in an attempt to chase away the shadows.
