"Sounds great Alex, when you figure out how to switch off your sense of smell let me know."
"I don't rely on my sense of smell to win a fight!" Alex snapped, suddenly feeling fed up with his nephew. Didn't he know Max's power was more a curse than a blessing? He might not have had personal experience as an empath but he could see the effects. And he'd done a lot more research than Max knew, Alex suspected. Still, Max relied on it too much. It must be hard not to, especially as so far as they knew there was nothing to do to dampen it really.
"Alex, stop. I know what you're doing. Stop picturing me as a scared 10-year-old. I can do this."
"Do you remember the battle?" Alex asked instead, straightening his sleeves as he thought. "Can you imagine having been an empath during that?" It probably wasn't going to be enough. He would have to show Max what he meant, sometimes it felt he'd inherited all the arrogance of his father.
"What's next? How do I keep training outside the Dragons?"
"What's next is we are going to duel. Are you ready?" Before Max could answer Alex went on the attack, both hands raised and firing spells.
