The White Death was a terrible way to die. Not even the greatest dark wizard in history deserved that fate. It was worse than death. Elle didn't know how Kris Kameren lived with it flowing in his veins, knowing that one day he would die from it. Was slowly dying at the moment. Fear made Elle shiver as she thought of Alex alone in his hospital room waiting to find out if the antidote worked. If he was cured or cursed. For all of Curse Kameren's genius the "cure" didn't save him and it might not work for his brother. Maybe this time Alex was exposed a little too long. A little too often. Perhaps this time the white death wouldn't fully leave his system and he would have a death sentence like his brother. It was hard to breath. A tight fist gripped her heart. She paced back and forth in her little apartment in Diagon Alley. She tapped her fingers together as she walked. She wanted to be there. Needed to be at the hospital. Why had she left St. Mungos? If she was still a healer she could do something. She could be at the hospital right now checking in on Alex. Okay, he was in isolation for 48 hours but she could be near by. Checking in on him. Making sure Curse was okay, help take care of him. Reassure Curse that Alex was fine, responding to the treatment etc. Instead she was locked in a cage of her own making. She was no longer a healer but a nurse. Oh she loved her job. But today she wished she hadn't left.
Doing nothing was not in Elle's nature. She had connections still. She hadn't left that long ago. There was someone at St. Mungos that would speak with her. Elle could get information. Probably more than the family. Arianna would want information and so would Max. Elle could bring in food. Make sure everyone wasn't freaking out. With a plan, Elle sprung into action. She gathered supplies, snacks and water. Armed with what she thought would be useful, Elle grabbed her wand and apparitated.
Elle hadn't been the best with apparition. She nearly failed the exam. She'd splinched her self quite a few times. Nothing major but she'd gotten pretty good at reattaching her own toes. Elle blinked rapidly as the harsh lights of St. Mungos came into focus. She felt a little dizzy after the spinning tightness of apparition. She took a couple of running step forwards, in a hurry to find someone to pump for information. Splat. Elle lost her balance and slid on the floor. She'd lost her shoe in her rush to set her plan in motion. She'd also lost a few toes on her right foot. She huffed in annoyance as she sat up pulling out her wand. She glanced around hunting for the lost appendages. It was easier just to reattach them than to grow new ones. She didn't have time to wait around for new toes to appear and skelo grow was nasty shit. Elle spotted her toes just chilling in the hallway a couple of feet away. She summoned them to her glancing at them to make sure they were clean. She did a quick disinfectant charm, she didn't need them to fall off because of infection. It would defeat the purpose of reattachment.
Elle was just about to do the attachment spell when a shrill voice interrupted her.
"Oh my god, your toes!" Elle glanced up annoyed as a young healer in green robes blocked Elle's light and started yammering about getting her medical assistance. Elle didn't recognize the panicked idiot.
"Er, I don't need your help. This is nothing," Elle said as she lined up the skin on her big toe. The healer looked horrified and snatched the other toes away from Elle.
"Please, MS. The professionals should really do this. Growing it back is just so much safer," She said staring at the freak who was touching her own bones. Elle rolled her eyes and muttered the repairing incantation. The ripped flesh joined together. Elle did a bone break repairing spell and washed the blood away with a water charm.
"It's fine. See. I cleaned it anyways. Can I have my toes back?" Elle said with irritation. The healer stared at Elle as if she were mental. She reluctantly handed back the other toes and summoned help from the mental ward.
Elle reattached the other toes. There. Her foot was good at new. The flesh around the separation was a little pink and her foot would be tender but over all she would be fine. She felt a little woozy from the blood loss. Of course her toes had practically spurted blood. She was missing the blood clotting protein so her blood took forever to thicken.
"What's your name?"
Elle had forgotten the young healer was there.
"Elle Callahan. Don't worry I'm not crazy. I'm a healer. Is Bonham around? I need to talk to him about Kris and Alex Kameren. Are they okay? Did anyone else come in with injuries from the demon attack? I know I'm no longer a healer here but maybe I can help?" Elle asked as she stood up. She winced a bit as she put pressure on her toes. Still tender.
