Name: Rowena Elizabeth Covington
Age: 27
Birthdate/place: Nottingham, UK 21/12/2010
Species: Human
Gender: Female
Family: Pureblood: Birth parents are Jakob Bludwyne and [unknown female]. But all this is unknown to her as she was abandoned at birth.
Adopted parents are Elizabeth Rose Covington and Edward Charles Covington the 3rd, an elderly, wealthy muggle couple. Elizabeth suffers from Alzheimers.
APPEARANCE
Hair: Shoulder length thick dark brown hair that is the bane of her existence. Mostly abandoned to it's own devices, it is wavy and flyaway.
Eyes: Almond shaped and surrounded by a thick feathering of dark lashes, Rowena's eyes are rather particular shade of amber that shine like liquid gold in the sunlight.
Build/height: 5ft9. Lean and tall, she holds herself straight and upright but is also quite physically weak.
General Description: Rowena has pale skin which often flushes with emotion. She has striking amber eyes which she likes to use to her advantage and full lips. She doesn't often smile (especially in public), but when she does, its a full cheeky grin that lights up her whole face. She is quite vain and makes sure her appearance is always perfect...with the exception of her slightly wavy hair which always seems to escape and fly around her face no matter what she does.
And she has a black moving tattoo of a fox in between her shoulder blades.
Possessions: She owns a small house in London which is sparsely furnished but full of books and two Maine Coon cats called Pumpkin and Spice. Her family own a large estate in Nottingham.
PERSONALITY
Temperment/Mental Attributes: Rowena is very much an over-achiever and is an extremely focused individual, having no time for time wasters. She is rather full of herself and has a tendency to think she’s always right and as such disdains things that get in her way, including rules.
She is quick to anger, quite often rash and unpredictable which has led to several occasions that could have gone better and always has sarcastic comment at the ready. She is not known to be the most adventurous or spontaneous but that is perhaps because the reality of the magical world never lived up to her initial experience of excitement and wonder, and she has since thrown herself headfirst into Healing. She does little else, and has already made a sort of name for herself, willing to stop everything and anything to heal someone who is hurt.
Well read and intelligent, she is a good person to have on your side, but as she appears rather standoffish to many, few push past the stern exterior of her personality to discover the fiercely loyal and protective woman she really is. However that loyalty is first and foremost to her family and if your interests are elsewhere or you cannot understand that, do not expect Rowena to stick around.
Alliance: To herself and those in need.
Alignment: Chaotic Good.

She also speaks French, German and Italian to perfection and is an excellent horse rider, all due to her privileged Muggle upbringing. One thing she will never admit to, is that she cannot draw, play any kind of instrument or sing. She has tried. And failed. The most she can do is make a sound or draw a stick figure. She is also hopeless at Quidditch or even riding a broom, would burn pasta and cannot keep a plant alive without resorting to magic.
HISTORY
21.12.2010
Born to a Jessica Smith (doubted to be her real name) and an unknown father, she is immediately given up for adoption, without a name. Adopted at only a few days old by wealthy Muggle couple Elizabeth Rose Covington and Edward Charles Covington the 3rd, her arrival is cause for much celebration. They have been trying for many years to have children and as they neared their twilight years they decided to adopt. They name her Rowena Elizabeth Covington. She is a chubby, happy baby who smiles perfectly for all those many family portraits and never fusses, content to stare at the world with large eyes and soak it all in.
Early Childhood
Rowena is a quick learner, speaking and walking in record time. She proves to be cheeky, with a witty retort always ready even at a young age. Her parents do not hide the fact that they adopted her, and shower her with love and attention. She is an extremely happy and doted on child.
Year of 2015
Strange things begin to happen around Rowena. Electronic devices switch on as she walks by. She is inexplicably dry after walking through the rain. And several times, her mother swears she saw her daughter’s toys moving…by themselves! These claims are of course dismissed and life continues as normal, though her parents make the decision to homeschool her as to avoid any taunts and rumours of 'strangeness'.
3.7.2018
Rowena is out riding her horse accompanied by her father, a family friend, Frederick Warcombe and his youngest son, Samuel. They stop by a small brook for a picnic. After eating, Rowena begs her father to allow her to go and play by the water. He agrees and turns back to his conversation with Frederick. The two children run to the brook and play quite contentedly for a while. A sudden shriek brings both parents running, expecting the worst. Instead they see Rowena surrounded by bubbles that catch the light, casting rainbows over the youngsters who are crying out in delight at the spectacle. Completely at a loss, Edward sputters and looks at his friend expecting to see the same look of bewilderment on his face. But he is met with a large grin, followed by the explanation that his daughter must be a witch!
After a brief flash of anger at what could only be an insult, Edward demands details! It emerges that Frederick and his family are actually Witches and Wizards and that the other children actually attend a Wizarding school called Hogwarts. Baffled but trusting his good friend, Edward asks many questions wanting to know all about this mysterious world that had been up until this point a complete secret. Rowena is equally enthralled. Already a tad spoiled, she delights at this other thing that makes her even more special.
Summer 2018
When the Warcombe children return that Summer they are bombarded with questions from a very determined and curious eight-year-old. Rowena still looks back on that Summer as one of her favourites. Afternoons of learning the complexities of Quidditch (brooms that could actually fly! And balls that seriously tried to hurt you!), to eating the most wonderfully weird sweets (she wasn’t overly fond of Burtie Botts though – who wanted a vomit tasting sweet? YUCK!), to meeting their pets (an owl! That delivered their mail! – though she still thought email was rather more convenient, it certainly didn’t try to peck your fingers!) fill the hot July and August days. It is truly amazing and she starts to count down the days until she too, can go to this Hogwarts and learn spells. Only 3 more years!
November 2019
The Warcombe family come to visit, all children present and home early from Hogwarts, to explain that they are moving to France. They are vague with the details but seem to be on edge and leave quickly. Rowena is visibly upset about their departure, mourning the loss of both friends and knowledge. Luckily they leave her with several books about the Magical World which she reads several times, devouring the information contained in their pages.
Year of 2020
The year is rather lonely, and Rowena spends much of her time with her nose in a book. She doesn’t really mind as she has always preferred her own company. Her parents do start to wonder if maybe they should have made more efforts to socialize her but reason that she is leaving for Hogwarts soon enough and that she will surely make lots of friends there – who would not love their little angel after all!?
15.8.2021
Rowena receives an email from Samuel Warcombe telling her that the family are returning to England on the 20th August.
1.9.2021
This was it! Time to leave the world of electricity and technology and move into one of parchment and magic. She is sorted into Ravenclaw, which suits her perfectly but is entering the Wizarding world at an odd and confusing time. She had been so impatient to experience the wonder and excitement of that first Summer, but the halls are quiet, with missing students, victims of the Flux. She had hoped to see the Warcombes, they are supposed to be returned from France, but she didn’t see them before she left home. She learns they have disappeared and are all presumed dead due to the mysterious Flux.
First years at Hogwarts
Surrounded by other driven people pushes Rowena to work hard, and she spends most of her time with her nose in a book. The mood is somber as people recover from the darkness of the Demon Wars and resulting tragedy and she makes only a few friends, acquaintances really. It doesn’t really bother her. After all, she is perfectly competent at everything so why does she need anyone else?
At least it doesn’t until the sombre mood starts the lift towards the end of her second year. She still spends the majority of her time in the Library -there are just so many books!- and this time, she is distracted by two other students giggling and enjoying each other’s company. It is the first time she feels a real twinge of jealousy and in the shock of feeling such a sharp bitter emotion, she snarkily asks them to ‘cease your frolicking and be quiet or leave, this is a library after all!’.
Thus begins her endless distaste of Eden Fletcher. From this encounter it only spirals as the two girls realize they could not be more different and yet somehow, they always seem to end up in each other’s lives.
It is around this time that she does make an effort to befriend a few other students in her year and she has a good couple of years as people get to know the loyal and caring girl she is becoming. She meets Joseph, another Muggleborn at the end of Third year and there are hints of a possible romance. They keep in contact over the Summer and even meet up on the odd weekend, and Rowena thinks she might actually have a boyfriend. But once they return to school, Josephs attention turns elsewhere when Rowena is busy studying and leaves her feeling embarrassed and confused. She puts more effort into her appearance, and after a late night playing Trivial Pursuit, kisses James, a fellow Ravenclaw, with whom she has much more in common. They end up dating for the rest of the year and she is quite content.
Summer 2025
After her fourth year, she returns to her home and is confronted by the fact that her mother has been diagnosed with Alzheimers. She immediately turns to magic, sure in the knowledge that it will be able to cure it. After hours of research, she starts to doubt her claim, so she makes her way to Mungo’s to ask the Healers. She is told there is nothing they can do, and in any case, her mother is a Muggle and there are rules in these situations. Rowena is not at all pleased with this. If Magic can’t cure common Muggle diseases what good is it?! Furious, Rowena storms out of the hospital. If they can’t help her, she will just have to do it all herself.
Final years at Hogwarts
Returning for her 5th year, Rowena is made Prefect which she considers only normal. She has a new focus. Healing. She reads everything about the subject she can get her hands on. She volunteers in the Hospital Wing. She pesters everyone and anyone for more information. She has one goal and one goal only. To save the woman who took her in and gave her the best childhood, full of love and care and acceptance, even if said woman barely remembers who she is anymore. Unfortunately, this drive is too much for James and after a big argument, they decide to go their separate years. Her few friends complain that she never spends time with them anymore but if they can't understand that she must help her mother, then are they really her friends? She falls back into solitude and concentrates on her studies. She passes her Owls with flying colours. She again feels a pang of jealousy as she watches people celebrating together and her 'friends' only giving her a passing congratulations.
Home for the Summer she is confronted daily by her mother's deterioration. Her father tries to talk to her about it, but she is determined. She will fix this. Her sixth year passes much the same as the fifth. Though she sees James often and wishes she had time to spend with those former friends, she really doesn't have any energy for all that. Her Potions grades are not good enough and she needs to get an Exceeds Expectations to become a Healer.
Finally comes Seventh Year. She is Head Girl. One more year until she can start her Healer Training. She just needs to ensure she passes Potions. And then it's time. She sits her NEWTS, and leaves confident. Now is the time to show the world just who Rowena Elizabeth Covington is.
Post-Hogwarts
Except it doesn't quite work that way and though she gets all her required grades and enters Mungos as a Healer-in-Training, she cannot just go ahead and attempt breakthrough treatment. She buys a small house in London but cannot shake the feeling of loneliness and instead spends much of her time at work. Her father, also worried about her lack of a social circle, buys her two cats to encourage her to take a break and hopefully go out and maybe meet some people. She is thankful for his attempts but her mother deteriorates and Rowena finds more excuses to work.
Her superiors are impressed at her work commitment. She may be pushy in her attempts to start independent research, but she is skilled at her job and good with the patients. She is granted Healer status at 21.
She decides to throw caution to the wind and go out to celebrate. On a whim, she contacts James and unexpectedly, he's happy to hear from her. They meet up and Rowena is pleasantly surprised to see her old classmates there too. The next day, she meets with James again and he apologises for not being supportive back at Hogwarts. Rowena forgives him and they begin dating again. This time, when Rowena gets permission to look into diseases that affect the mind, James is right there with her, letting her bounce ideas off him and offering viable ideas. He moves in and things are going well. Her mother's condition, though bad, has been stable for a few years and her research is progressing well. Coincidentally, her work has helped find several breakthroughs for victims of memory charms and even extended exposure to the Cruciatus curse.
But as is wont to happen, they start to fight. Little things at first. James expecting her to have food ready for him when he gets home, nevermind the fact that she can't cook pasta! James wanting to go out in the evenings and complaining that she is always too tired. Rowena wants him to meet her parents, but he can never seem to find the time. James saying she works too much and maybe they should start thinking about the future, getting married, having children. Rowena not understanding why she isn't excited about the idea. And then James is offered a job in China. He begs Rowena to leave with him. Says he wants to marry her, but she cannot accept. Her work is too important, and she could never leave her parents.
It is a bitter separation, and it seems like Rowena is destined to be alone after all. She tries to ignore the sharp pain in her heart, but she cannot bring herself to fill her house again after James removes all trace of their life together. An empty house full of books suits her she rationalises. No need to pretend otherwise. And when Healer Harold Stone retires from the Spell Damage ward, and she is offered the position of Healer-in-Charge at a record age of 26 she finally realises that maybe she had clung on too long to the idea of being with someone who wasn't quite right for her after all.
