At around 5:13am on September 28th, an earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter Scale hit the grounds of Hogwarts with no prior warning. Such a high recording is rarely felt in the UK and as such, there have been several cases of reported damage.
One casualty is the well known Shrieking Shack which now lies in ruins. Other shops along Hogsmeade Highstreet have reported minor damage and there are reports of several animals that may have possibly escaped from Riko's Menagerie running amok in the streets.
Within Hogwarts grounds, the Whomping Willow has become partially unearthed and students are warned to stay away now more than ever. The Quidditch Pitch has suffered with two of the goal posts having fallen, though the school says this will be fixed in time for the Slytherin/Gryffindor Quidditch match next month. The greenhouses have also shattered and report of a fallen corridor have emerged. There are rumours of a faculty accident though all students have been reported safe and sound.
The epicenter appears to have come from within the Forbidden Forest but further details have been classified.
