Hey guys, sorry for all the inactivity. I've been amping up to my final semester at college, and I've had to write a lot more essays than usual! Anyway, I think I've figured out what direction the plot should be headed in. What we need is new, active people changing dynamics on the board and keeping things interesting.
What we need to do is move the plot further away from the Kamerens. They're a beast of our own, something we've groomed and put together with a long, convoluted history that is difficult for others to follow when they're first coming in. But, I've figured out a way to keep what we have, but shift the focus somewhere else: the gypsies.
Ulysses Holland and his granddaughter/protegee Rowena Holland run a very successful crime empire through Knockturn Alley. Though Ulysses has always been content to stay in the shadows, Rowena is more arrogant and wishes to take credit for their lucrative work. She does this by leading some kind of assault/raid outside the wizarding underworld (Ro, my dear, that's up to you if you're into this).
The appearance of the aurors/black watch/someone leads Rowena's endeavor to a failure. Ulysses, to protect his granddaughter and his empire, Holland uses his underground to perpetuate rumors that dark-wizards associated with the gypsies were behind the attack. This makes it to the Ministry, and Law Enforcement starts cracking down on the gypsy population, specifically in Hogsmeade.
After months of hostility between the two, a riot breaks out in London over the hitwizard discrimination against gypsies. This escalates the tension to the point where the the Wizarding public are on the brink of civil war against their own government.
This was Holland's plan all along, of course: distract both sides so he can keep his own business running smoothly, and possibly come out in a place of power once the revolution is over. But, perhaps, someone is watching him.
Thoughts? Input? We'll be moving a lot of the action to Hogsmeade and Knockturn Alley, using characters outside the Ministry. Both sides think they're fighting for the 'good' guys, while Rowena and Ulysses pull the strings and go about their respective double-lives.
