History-
Druids are a very secretive people. They hate small spaces and love to travel. But they also love company and frequently form large familial groups. As such, Emory was the fifth son of Marya and Glen Melyonen. Emory’s family was also comprised of three sisters (one older and two younger), two aunts, five uncles, a grandmother and six cousins. His childhood was nothing short of fun and days were spent frolicking in the sun, splashing around in streams, climbing trees, playing with his siblings and cousins and getting into trouble with his elders. The druidic lifestyle was very carefree and Emory enjoyed every second of it.
When he turned eleven, he received his letter to Hogwarts and it was time to pause his Druidic training and join his siblings. Though Druids possessed magic, it was largely focused on a symbiotic relationship with Nature and they cherished this bond more than anything. However, they appreciated that their rather ancient lineage granted them other talents and though it separated the family, celebrated the fact that another one of them was off to expand his knowledge.
With lots of hugging and kissing and crying (notably from the females in his family), Emory was off to Hogwarts, where he was promptly sorted into Gryffindor. He settled in well, becoming well known to both students and teachers for his numerous pranks and subsequent detentions. He had a large group of friends but he found that he missed his family and the constant adventure that came with travelling. Though his siblings attended Hogwarts, none were in his House and they all had their own friends They all made sure to return to their parents at every chance they got but Emory felt a distance he had not before. During one such visit, he ended up fighting with his elder brother Rowan. He was in the wrong, but he was stubborn and was angry that his family had sided against him. When the next chance to go home arose, he refused stating that he would rather stay at Hogwarts. Though saddened by this, his parents had been through enough teenage angst already to understand that Emory just needed a little time. That's when it happened. He was fifteen.
His parents, his siblings, his entire family had been killed. Their home in Wales had been destroyed. The killer or killers had gotten away. No one knew what had happened, but Emory had gone from a happy lucky kid with a huge family to an angry, tormented orphan. If only he had been there! Maybe things could have been different! The pranks stopped and Emory threw himself into his studies determined to become the best he could so that one day he could find whoever had ripped his life apart and kill them. His teachers became concerned seeing him throw himself into the idea of revenge and tried to convince him to choose a future profession to give him something other than revenge to work towards. His friends tried to be supportive and over the Summer of his sixth year, a small group of them went travelling around Britain.
It was exactly what Emory needed and it awoke that thirst for being outside that every Druid had. He was still hurting over the loss of his family, was still determined to seek vengeance, but he would enjoy the life he had been given by those he had loved more than anything. Back for his seventh and final year, with the great goal of becoming a Curse Breaker, the former Emory returned much to relief of those around him.
Graduation brought a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment and he said goodbye to his friends, knowing that he probably wouldn’t see them again and set off on the next step of his life. He changed his last name for protection and secrecy in case his family's murderer's decided they needed to finish the job. He joined Gringotts’ team of Curse Breakers and began the task of following his peers into dangerous situations. He enjoyed his job and quickly gained the reputation of being perhaps a bit too reckless but good at what he did. Emory just enjoyed being able to travel. He met new people, discovered new things and collected new objects. One of these ‘objects’ was Bird. The raven had followed him through the woods one day, cawing annoyingly at every possible moment until Emory had thrown a rock at its direction. It had then flown down and pecked Emory in return. It was the start of a beautiful friendship.
When he was 23, Magritte joined the unusual duo. She was a young French witch, just out of Beauxbatons and also eager to travel. It was an instant attraction and she followed Emory on his journeys, exploring the area as he did his job. They married just six months later in a small ceremony and for a year they were blissfully happy. But it was not to last. Magritte just couldn’t keep up or understand Emory’s intense need to constantly move and eventually she wanted to start thinking about settling down.
Emory refused to be tied down in one place and just days before his 26th birthday, they divorced. Though he missed Magritte’s company, Emory knew it was for the best and threw himself back into his work and into tracking down his family’s killers which he had finally found a trace of in Egypt the previous year. He followed the trail which took him back to his home country.
