Name: Sabin Vladek Volstok Age: 33 Birthdate/place: [06-09-2003], Born in London, England, UK and raised at family estates in both London and Moscow, Russia. Species: Pure-Blood Human Wizard Gender: Male Family: The Volstok family is a pure-blooded Russian-British lineage that has married in to other pure-blooded lineages. The family excels in international affairs and diplomacy, with the majority of its members holding positions in either the European or British Ministries of Magic. A Volstok has held a seat in the Wizengamot for over two centuries. Those not in government positions enjoy the social, almost elite status afforded by the family’s wealth. In addition to their pursuits for power, the Volstok’s are known benefactors to the arts. The Volstoks, for example, founded the magical Imperial London Ballet, for which Sabin Volstok is a principal dancer. The Volstoks are regarded with mixed emotions throughout the magical world. There are many supporters of Dumbledore’s Army and the Order of the Phoenix, for example, who hold little trust in the Volstoks, their acquaintances and their dealings. Others would do anything to worm their way in to the Volstok inner circle, for the family is exceedingly generous to their friends and supporters. Most of Sabin’s immediate and extended family are living. In fact, the entire family lives on a massive estate that is carefully guarded by spells and a full-time staff. The parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles are all quite extroverted and meddlesome and Sabin is very much aware that his path was decided before he was born.

Appearance: Hair: Blonde Eyes: Blue Build/height- 5’5” with a lean, athletic build. General Description- Sabin is petite in stature but large in strength. His muscles and agility express more than just movement and he is thought to dance like a human representation of the wind. His skin is pale, his hair dark, and he carries an expression of boyish youthfulness that defies the rigidity of his nouveau-noble upbringing. Sabin is handsome but soft. His strength and physicality come from art, not war, and the battle-scars he carries are from years of fastidious, relentless study. Sabin has no tattoos or identifiable marks beyond his double-jointed toes and abnormal flexibility. Possessions- Most of everything that Sabin owns actually belongs to the family Volstok. His privacy is limited to an apartment/studio in the family’s London estate and within those rooms he stores clothes, performance awards and a collection of music beyond the traditional family library. His room is furnished in rich but airy linens and the deep grey walls boast paintings in ornate gold frames. Sabin has a barred owl in the Volstok Owlry, a pet tabby cat and a personal account in a vault at Gringotts.

He is quietly intense yet charismatic and while he does not smile unnecessarily, his smile is said to stop hearts. Sabin is creative and intelligent and where he excels in his introverted discipline, he fails in personal relationships. Sabin is most uncomfortable socializing in groups of large people and sometimes bites off more than he can chew in confrontations. For all of his internal strength, Sabin is not independent from his family. His every action is monitored and his decisions are not necessarily his. He has paid dearly for his sporadic rebellion. Despite his birth in London, he carries a soft Russian accent formed from years of visits to the Motherland and continuous exposure to the mother tongue as spoken at the Volstok family estates. Sabin is a great admirer of Muggle dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov but he is careful to mention this in front of his family given their strict fondness for the accomplishments of pure-blood wizards.
History: Sabin was born on a stormy Saturday to Ivanovich and Cygnus Volstok, a high-ranking Ministry official and his philanthropist-socialite wife. Entering the world in a private room at St. Mungo’s, Sabin was welcomed by his parents and both sets of grandparents, who quickly discerned that the premature infant was too small in stature to command a political audience like his father (a role that would be ultimately filled by his younger brother) but perfect in every other regard to take up the family’s next greatest passion: the arts. Sabin was lean and flexible, wide-eyed and expressive. The paternal grandmother said what all others in the room were thinking: he would bring the family fame as a dancer. With untold riches at their disposal, the Volstoks founded the Imperial London Ballet and immediately established a school for training and development. Sabin started dancing at the age of three.
Sabin’s childhood was a rather lonesome affair, with hours spent studying in the company of his siblings and cousins. He was quieter than the rest, a little less gregarious and opinionated, but he was still a charming spirit and to the chagrin of his family, made friends with the staff that managed the large estate. He was far too compassionate and heart-driven for the family’s liking, and they responded to this perceived weakness by firing the help and recruiting stricter employees. Even Sabin’s ballet instructor was replaced with a man who made his corrections physically.
Sabin was moved to Mother Russia at the age of ten so that he could enroll at Durmstrang on his eleventh birthday. With a scholarship to the school’s prestigious performing arts program, Sabin was able to skirt most of the advanced Dark Arts teachings (which he didn’t care for that much anyway) by focusing on the areas he most desired, like acrobatics and fire-breathing. The Volstoks made large donations to Durmstrang in order to afford Sabin every opportunity to perform before a worldly audience and upon graduation, he was already sought after by many dance companies to join their corps de ballet. As was the family’s ultimate plan and insistence, he accepted a contract from the Imperial London Ballet and moved back to the family estate in magical London, where Sabin would learn the new meaning of control.
Under the guise of independence, Sabin’s family renovated his quarters and dance studio to celebrate his adulthood and accomplishments to date. He was given his own staff and was allowed to open his own bank account at Gringott’s, which would safe-keep fifty-percent of his earnings, the rest going to the family fortune as a fee for room and board. Sabin’s schedule was strict, unrelenting and planned – the product of a careful collaboration between the company and his grandmother. He trained from dawn to dusk and the majority of his exposure to the outside world came from family dinners in the palatial dinning room. He had little access to editorials and learned of current affairs through his relations, not understanding how one-sided their views truly were. Nothing came in to question until Sabin stumbled upon a discarded Daily Prophet during a rehearsal for the Nutcracker, in which was a featured principal dancer. Intrigued by a moving picture of his father and uncle descending the steps of the International Confederation of Wizards, Sabin folded the paper away for later reading at home. It would be his last true act of independence.
Sabin sat in profound disbelief and heartache as he learned of serious allegations made by a group called “The Black Watch” against his family. The Black Watch promised proof of secret dealings between the Volstoks and a rising congress of dark arts supporters and further hinted at corruption within the ranks of the Ministry of Magic. Blame was placed on the Wizengamot for allowing the Volstoks to clear many guilty witches and wizards and demands were made by the Watch to investigate all members of the Volstok family and their supporters. Sabin responded to the news by leaving his quarters for that of his parents. He wondered with growing suspicion why it was so hard to pass the security wizards.
“Get your hands off me.”
-“Sir, we’re asking you to stay in your quarters for your own protection.”
“Inside my own house?”
-“We’re under orders, sir. Back inside, please.”
“Orders from whom?”
-“…from your mother, sir.”
Sabin’s eyes flashed darkly and he forced his way through his men to confront his relations. He knocked once and entered, finding his mother, father, aunts, uncles and grandparents holding a secret meeting in the foyer of their grand suite. A hand clamped down on Sabin’s shoulder and he turned to see his younger brother. The Daily Prophet dropped from his hand.
”You look tired, brother.”
“Piotr…What’s going on-“
”It’s time to let you in on a little secret.”
Sabin cast his brother an uncertain gaze before finding his mind in a uneasy spin. The next morning he awoke in his bed with a cool cloth on his head. A nurse was tending to him, stating that he had fainted during a rehearsal.
“I had the strangest dream.”
He joined the company at the Imperial London Ballet later that morning. Sure enough, he was approached by his colleagues and asked of his condition. Even his co-star, a petite ballerina named Reagan, hugged him closely and insisted he had given her quite the fright. Sabin located another edition of the Daily Prophet in the dressing room. The front page showed his father and uncle descending the front stairs of the International Confederation of Wizards. The headline read: VOLSTOKS GAIN APPROVAL FOR BILL 14 – ICW Approves International Legislation Giving Additional Rights to the Underprivileged.”
With his fears now lessened, Sabin returned to the stage that evening to give what would be the most critically acclaimed performance of his career. The Minister of Magic, who had been an official guest of the ballet that evening, surprised Sabin with a visit to his dressing room during intermission. He asked the young man to accept an honourary position with the Department of International Magical Cooperation and the International Confederation of Wizards as an Ambassador to the Arts. Sabin humbly accepted, understanding that his role would be to inspire and mentor young persons looking for future employment opportunities in one the Ministry of Magic’s many departments.
The Minister returned to his box seat for Act II.
“His response?”
-“What do you think, Mikhailovich? What would you say if you were asked by the Minister of Magic.”
“Very good, your worship.”
-“I do love you Volstoks. You are rather accommodating, aren’t you?”
