Having darkness in your head, no matter how dark one originally was, was not a pleasing experience. It shifted continuously, pushing at the walls she had so meticulously placed around it, speaking with sweet promises that Alyson ignored as she went about her days. It was exceedingly annoying when one had to pretend to be such a sweet sniveling pitiful girl who was just oh so grateful to Hogwarts and its staff for allowing her to progress despite her apparent magical ability. She’d show them magical ability…. Just as soon as she was free from these walls and the stifling watchful gazes of the pathetic teachers.
‘We could just show them now… release me and all their whining will be erased as if but a memory…’ the voice whispered in her mind. Aly grunted as she pushed it back, back, back into the corners of her mind, bumping into a student in the process.
“Watch where you’re going you dumb freak,”
Alyson barely contained the snarl at the words, her hand reaching forward to take the insolent boys life.
'Do it. Show them who you really are. Make him beg for your mercy and watch him scream when he realizes you have none,’
And oh how she wanted to, but she paused and then the boy was gone. Alyson told herself it didn’t matter, that they’d all get what was coming to them soon enough. A few more months and she’d be out of this stupid school and finally, finally, she would complete the ritual. She’d seen it, only a few weeks ago, her Shadow Sight granting her the vision. All the players, those carefully cultivated pieces all where they needed to be, everything in its place. There was no way she’d fail. In just a few months’ time, she’d cast off this pathetic persona and claim her true place.
But until then, she had to keep the mask firmly on, especially this week. She was getting out from the claustrophobic reach of Hogwarts walls and going with Jamie to his home for Easter. The boy really was too much. After finding out that she’d spent Christmas alone, he’d insisted that she not be by herself for the next holidays. At first Aly had resisted, there really was only so much ‘Jamie time’ she could tolerate… but then she’d found the text that had strongly hinted at what she needed… and it was oh so conveniently near Jamie’s childhood home. The witch had supposed that she could kill two birds with one stone.
The boy had become a little distant lately as the Kamerens had increased their hold in him and truthfully, she’d been a bit lax in his training. With the loss of Michael, her plans had been thrown a little astray and well Jamie had originally just been a bit of fun on the side. But now, with things coming together again, she needed to reinstate her claim. The boy was hers to use. So she’d agreed to go with him and teach him some more with the agreement that she would only go for a few days. After all, she was extremely grateful to his mother for allowing her to visit and didn’t want to intrude. Jamie had left as soon as the holidays had started, Aly remaining at school for a little longer. She had a lot of studying to do, she’d claimed and needed the use of the school library.
But today was the day she was to join him and she knocked politely on her Head of House’s office door before entering. With all the added protection at the school, all entrances and exits were being carefully monitored in an attempt to protect the more vulnerable from the darkness that plagued the outside world. It was enough to make her want to laugh. If only they knew that the puppet master behind it all, was standing amongst them.
The Slytherin head of house looked up at her entrance and greeted her tersely. “Go on through Miss Bludwyne. Your travel has been approved. Powder is on the left.”
Alyson had to stop her sightless eyes from rolling. Left of where? She inched forward, feeling the warmth of the flames in front of her and tentatively reached with her left hand. Thankfully she felt the pot of powder and grasped a fistful. Without a word to her professor she announced the address Jamie had had her memorise before he left and stepped into the now green flames.
A few dizzying moments later, she was spat out and calling out the younger boy’s name between coughs of ash.
“Jamie? Please let me be in the right place… Hello?”
