(Nicked this FAQ from Nuriko on our sister site - Incendio Potentialis Thanks Nuri!)
Got a question? Send it in!
1. What is the basis of Alohomora?
Alohomora is a Harry Potter Future site. Based in the Wizarding world Harry saved at the tender age of 17, Incendio explores what happened after the war.
2. So are you a canon site?
Well, yes and no. We are canon because in the history of our site, Harry Potter defeated Old Moldy Voldy and (mostly everyone) lived happily ever after. As happy as "The War Generation" are likely to be, anyway. But we do not stick strictly to J.K. Rowlings epilogue. We encourage people to explore the Wizarding world with their own original characters, but do accept canons as well. The Trio is also being accepted.
As we are so far away from the days of the Second War against Voldemort (38 years), it's fun to explore not only the war generation, but their children and even the generation after that. This site is so distant in time from the original Harry Potter series that it's less canon, more roleplay in the world of Harry Potter where that history has occurred.
3. Whats up with the site name?
Alohomora! Unlocked! Get it? ....No?
4. Can I have [...] as my character? Why don't you have a list of Canons?
We do have a list of canons! You can find them here: Canons
If you want a specific book canon or their family, and they're not on the list, simply ask an administrator. We're always willing to help.
5. What’s up with the OotP and the DE?
The Order has gone their separate ways, now that the threat of Voldemort is gone. However, some ex-members can’t resist keeping a close eye on the world around them.
The Death Eaters are essentially non-existent. They were dealt a hard blow in the years following the Battle at Hogwarts. No one has stepped up to take the place of Voldemort and re-assemble the DE.
6. There's this awesome event/thread coming up! I want people to join!
Well, you are more than welcome to PM a staff member about your event/big thread. We have a special place on the sidebar for such things.
7. What year is it? What time of year is it? How do you RP time here?
The year and month are on the side-bar under "Events". There is also a link to a calendar of the current IC month and year. If it looks a little weird, it is because it is set up as a calendar in the UK would be.
We Roleplay in what is commonly known as fuzzy time, that is, the player may be writing several threads at the same time (for the writer) that occur at different times (for the character.) While "April" is up on the sidebar, for instance, you can create threads at any IC date/time in April. When April is replaced by May, all threads would start to be set in May. This gives plenty of time and flexibility for threads.
8.I see some kids running around the site, sorted into houses even though they're too young. Whats up? How young can a character be?
A few of our members have created characters under the age of 11. Following tradition, we have sorted them into a member group that reflects their future house. Up until they enter Hogwarts, this can be changed.
We don't have a set limit on ages, but all children not in Hogwarts are accepted on a case-to-case basis, usually involving whether or not the character will be able to get proper play.
