Alex liked Elle's laugh, it was genuine and these days, not as common to hear it as before. He handed her another napkin for the spill. A woman about Max's age approached, introducing herself. He took her hand as it was offered, shaking it briefly. "Alex Kameren."
She turned to the other healer, "You ready for this?" she asked with a grimace.
"Ready for what?" Alex queried, finishing off the last of his scotch and raising a curious eyebrow at Elle. Just then a witch got up on stage and tapped the mike floating there. "Attention, attention."
“I almost forgot. I think there will be food in the next room during the auction. It’s a silly thing to raise money. Staff members are being auctioned off to the highest bidder for dates. Here’s your chance to finally have a date with me,”
Elle downed the last of her wine and blurted out an explanation, flushing furiously. Alex had barely had time to process her words before she was dragging Rowena off arm in arm. His face was a study in several conflicting emotions as he worked through her words.
"Attention! The auction is about to begin! Afterwards we will have dinner, please see the slip you were given on entry to find your seat--and good luck!" Alex looked at the small paper, the number four marched across the paper in fancy script. His cheeks cooling from their blush, he looked over the tables, finding one near the stage with the number four spinning slowly above it.
