“Yes please,” she said finally, wincing at the soft nervousness obvious in her voice. “I added the mood stabilizer,” she added with a grimace. “The emotional pathways were lighting up like fireworks. I thought it would help calm the test subjects down.”
Max nodded, surprised and impressed at the Rowena Covington telling him she had done something wrong. Scandal. He avoided the joke, hoping that they could keep the peace at least for now. "Next time, just administer it separately about thirty minutes before the test potion, that should do the trick and keep your tester intact." He stood to his full height, surveying the table for more notes. "What else d'you have?"
“This is a sample from the last batch before I added it though,” Another wave and the cupboards lining the walls opened to reveal hundreds of potions sitting happily in stasis, in various colours of the rainbow. Emerald eyes scanned the array of bottles, and a low whistle escaped Max. That was a lot of potions.
“And this, urm, this is every variant I’ve ever done.” She said quietly. Max walked along the walls, examining each potion carefully. “There’s notes specific to each one under the bottle. And the spell work research is over there.” she pointed to a bookshelf filled with thick heavy tomes. “Currently, the spell work is to fix the failing DNA strands one by one, but it doesn’t stick, so the potion is supposed to help that. I’m starting to wonder if it shouldn’t be the other way around though? Use the potion to fix and the spells to cement the healing?”
"No, I think you're right the first time. Spellwork will be more permanent and straight forward. Use potions to address the side effects as they come up." He stopped to take the notes out from under a lilac-colored bottle, skimming them as he thought. "Are you just going the Genetic route, then? If you want to try something broader, crafting something that strengthens proteins in the brain cells to slow degradation would help. It could at least supplement while you try to fix the DNA."
“You sure you can handle it?”
Max cracked a rare smile for Rowena. "Yeah, I think I can."
